Catching Fire: Book Vs. Movie

I recently read Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, and then saw the movie. So, I thought I'd do a little comparison between the two.

The Book:

Catching Fire is the second installment in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. It follows Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the two victors of the 74th Hunger Games; a first because only one victor can be crowned, usually. Seeing this as hope, the people of Panem, which is the country that holds 12 districts, start to cause uprisings. Unable to convince them otherwise, Katniss and Peeta are sent back into the Games, but this time, they’re competing with past victors.

The plot of this story is thick and captivating. It’s a very unique story, with an amazing writing style. There are surprises, romance, passion, adventure, action, pain, and so much more. Everything runs together so well, and the ending was fantastic, with a huge plot twist that leaves you wanting more.

The characters are phenomenal. Katniss is a very strong, very independent, and loving character. She shows this in the first book when she volunteers to go into the Hunger Games when her sister is chosen to go in and she continues to do so in this one. She’s very easy to admire, and probably one of the best fictional female characters. Peeta is also a very strong character. He is driven by love, but his love is for her. He’s very protective and isn’t against sacrificing himself, which makes him loveable. All of the characters, including the newer ones, develop perfectly. They all help make the story.

I think that everyone who enjoys Dystopians such as The Maze Runner by James Dashner or Divergent by Veronica Roth will enjoy this series.

The Movie:
The Catching Fire movie was released on November 22nd. It's amazing and leaves you on the edge of your seat!

This movie sticks to most of the plot of the book, only leaving out minor things, which is something you really look for in a movie that’s based off a book.
The features in this book are great. It really is undeniably astounding, seeing the story fold out in front of you, allowing you to actually see and hear the fictional world of Panem. The graphics, while not perfect, were still awesome, especially with the futuristic vibe and with all the action.
Jennifer Lawrence, who portrays Katniss, plays her character to perfection. She is beautiful, and uses her intense emotions to capture the audience. Josh Hutcherson plays Peeta. And he’s amazing, as always. He really makes you pay attention to him, using his charm (and those eyes of his) to the best of his ability. Liam Hemsworth who plays Gale, Woody Harrelson who plays Haymitch Abernathy, and Elizabeth Banks who plays Effie Trinket really make their characters stand out as well.
All in all, this movie was an almost perfect portrayal of the book, and I strong suggest you go watch it.

I really did enjoy how the book, and movie, played out. Both the book and the movie were better than the first, in my opinion. I really can't wait for the third!
